This program operates under the auspices of Vigo Superior Court, Division 5, the Honorable Barbara Brugnaux presiding. The Director is Bernard J. Burns, MS, CADAC IV. The Drug Court Coordinator is Paul E. Southwick, MS.

Synopsis

Created in 1979 by the late Robert Howard Brown, then Judge of Vigo County Court-Division 5, the program receives referrals from the Court system. Offenders charged with or convicted of crimes/infractions involving alcohol or other drugs are sent to the program. The program provides assessment, education, monitoring and referral services for these cases and keeps the referring Court apprised of an offender's compliance with services.. They also provide on-site breath-testing 7 days per week, urinalysis collection, monitor antabuse or disulfiram therapy, SCRAM monitoring and provides jail assessment and recommendations to the Courts. The Program oversees the Vigo County Drug Court, providing services that are more intensive to Offenders suffering from addiction. They also monitor offenders involved in our Ignition Interlock Program. We are members of the Indiana Coalition of Court Alcohol and Drug Services, the Indiana Association of Drug Court Professionals, the Indiana Counselor's Association on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and are certified for services through the Indiana Judicial Center.
