CHAPTER 48

VIGO COUNTY      HEALTH DEPARTMENT

3 – 48.1      Purpose

WHEREAS, the Vigo County Health Department has promoted the health and well-being of the citizens of Vigo County for many years and is an integral part of our local government; and

      WHEREAS, Indiana Code 16-1-3.8-1 provides that the executive of each county shall by Ordinance establish and maintain a local health department.

      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of Vigo County. Indiana that the Vigo County Health Department is hereby established.

3 – 48.2      General Provisions

3 – 48.2-a      The Vigo County Health Department incorporates Indiana Code 16-1-1 et. seq. and shall be governed thereby.

3 – 48.2-b        Pursuant to Indiana Code 16-1-3.g-3.a Board composed of seven

(7) members, no more than four (4) of whom may be from the same political party shall be administratively responsible for managing the Vigo County Health Department and shall be responsible to the Board of Commissioners.

3 – 48.3      Repealer

      All ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed.

3 – 48.4      Severability Clause

      Should any section, provision or part of this Ordinance be adjudged invalid or unconstitutional, such adjudication shall not affect the validity of the Ordinance as a whole, or any section, provision, or part thereof not adjudged invalid or unconstitutional.

3 – 48.5      Effective Date

      This ordinance has been passed and adopted this 6th day of March, 1992, by the Vigo County Board of Commissioners.
