CHAPTER 17

AN ORDINANCE TO GOVERN THE VIGO COUNTY EMERGENCY TELEPHONE DEPARTMENT AND ESTABLISH AN E 9-1-1 ADVISORY COMMITTEE

 

 

1 – 17.1      Purpose

1 – 17.1-a      This Ordinance shall be known as and may be cited as the VIGO COUNTY E 9-1-1 DEPARTMENT/ADVISORY COMMITTEE ORDINANCE

 

1 – 17.1-b      Whereas, the Indiana Legislature adopted I.C. 36-8-16 et seq.,and the Vigo County Council, by Ordinance 1-14 et seq. imposed a telephone surcharge and established a Vigo County Enhanced Emergency Telephone System.

 

1 – 17.1-c      Whereas, it is now believed necessary to establish the Enhanced

9-1-1 Department under the general direction and supervision of the VIGO COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.

 

1 - l7.2      General Provisions

1 – 17.2-a      Now, therefore, be it ordained and enacted by the Board of Vigo County, Indiana Commissioners that:

1 – 17.2-a.1      Pursuant to the Authority of, and subject to, I.C. 36-8-16 et seq., and I.C. 36-2-4-2/7/8; E 9-1-1 is established as a separate department, and a Standing Committee to assist and advise the Vigo County Commissioners in the operation and maintenance of E 9-1-1 is now established as follows:

1 – 17.2-a.1-a      President of the Vigo County Commissioners (or designee).

1 – 17.2-a.1-b       President of the Vigo County Council (or designee).

1 – 17.2-a.1-c      President of the Terre Haute City Council (or designee).

1 – 17.2-a.1-d      District 32 Indiana State Police Post Commander (or designee).

1 – 17.2-a.1-e One (1) Chief of the Vigo County Fire Departments (to be selected by the Fire Chiefs).

1 – 17.2-a.1-f Terre Haute City Chief of Police (or designee).

1 – 17.2-a.1-g The Vigo County Sheriff (or designee).

1 – 17.2-a.1-h Terre Haute City Fire Chief (or designee).

1 – 17.2-a.1-i       West Terre Haute Town Board President (or designee).

 

1 – 17.3      Repealer

All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict with the

the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed.

 

1 – 17.4      Severability Clause

      If any section, provision or part of this Ordinance is adjudged invalid or unconstitutional, such adjudication shall not effect the validity of the Ordinance as a whole, or any section, provision or part thereof not adjudged invalid or unconstitutional.

 

1 – 17.5      Effective Date

      Passed and adopted by the Vigo County Board of Commissioners this 17th day of April. 2000.
