COMMISSIONER
AND COUNCILMANIC ELECTION DISTRICTS

Purpose
The purpose of this ordinance is to establish County Commissioner and Councilmanic Election Districts.
1 3.2
Commissioner Districts
1 3.2-a The County executive shall divide the county into three (3) districts that are composed of continuous territory and are reasonably compact.
The executive may not divide precincts, and may divide townships only when a division is clearly necessary to accomplish redistricting. If it is necessary to do so the County Auditor shall call a special meeting of the executive to establish or revise districts. (IC 36-2-2-4).
1 3.2-b The county of Vigo is divided into three (3) County Commissioner Election Districts designated numerically as follows:
District 1:
This district shall consist of all of Nevins Township, Lost Creek Township, Riley Township, Pierson Township, and the following precincts of Harrison Township, 3B, 3C, 3E, 3F, 3H, 3I, 3J, 3K, 4D, 4F, 4G, 6D, 6E, 6F, 7D, 7E, 7F, 7K, 8A, 8B, 8C, 8E, 8F, 8H, and 8I.
District 2:
This district shall consist of all of all of Fayette Township, Sugar Creek Township, Prairieton Township, Prairie Creek Township, and the following precincts in Harrison Township, 1A, 1C, 1D, 1F, 1G, 1H, 2C, 2E, 2F, 2H, 2I, 2J, 4A, 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D, 5G, 5H, 5I, and 6A.
District 3:
This district shall consist of Otter Creek Township, Linton Township, Honey Creek Township, and the following precincts in Harrison Township, 2B, 3G, 4B, 6B, 6C, 7A, 7B, 7C, 7G, 7I, 7J and 8D.
Passed and adopted by the Vigo County Board of Commissioners this 31st day of December, 1993.

Councilmanic Districts
1 3.3-a The county executive shall, by ordinance, divide the county into four (4) contiguous, single-member districts. The executive may not divide precincts when redistricting. If it is necessary to do so, the county auditor shall call a special meeting of the executive to establish or revise districts. One (1) member of the fiscal body shall be elected by the voters of each of the four (4) districts. Three (3) at large members of the fiscal body shall be elected by the voters of the whole county. (IC 36-2-3-4)
1 3.3-b Single member districts must: (1) be compact, subject only to natural boundary lines (such as railroads, major highways, rivers, creeks, parks and major industrial complexes) (2) contain, as nearly as possible, equal population; and (3) include whole townships, except when a division is clearly necessary to accomplish redistricting under this section. (IC 36-2-3-4)
1 3.3-c A division shall be made in 1981 and every ten (10) years after that, and may also be made in any other odd-numbered year.
1 3.3-d The county of Vigo is divided into four (4) county councilmanic election districts designated numerically as follows:
District 1:
This district shall consist of all of Nevins Township, Lost Creek Township, Otter Creek Township, and the following precincts of Harrison Township, 6A, 6B, 6C, 6D, 6E, 7I, and 7J.
District 2:
This district shall consist of all of Fayette Township, Sugar Creek Township, and the following precincts of Harrison Township, 1A, 1C, 1D, 1F, 1G, 1H, 2C, 2E, 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D, 5H, and 5I.
District 3:
This district shall consist of the following precincts of Harrison Township, 2B, 2F, 3B, 3C, 3E, 3F, 3G, 3H, 3I, 3J, 3K, 4A, 4B, 4D, 4F, 4G, 5G, 6F, 7A, 7B, 7C, 7D, 7E, 7F,7G, 7K, 8A, 9B, 9C, and 8H.
District 4:
This district shall consist of all of Riley Township, Pierson Township, Honey Creek Township, Linton Township, Prairieton Township, Prairie Creek Township, and the following precincts in Harrison Township, 2H, 2I, 2J, 8D, 8E, 8F, and 8I
1 3.3-e Passed and adopted by the Vigo County Board of Commissioners on December 20, 1993.
1 3.4
Repealer
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of these ordinances are hereby repealed.

Severability Clause
If any section, provision, or part of these ordinances are adjudged invalid or unconstitutional, such adjudication shall not affect the validity oĢ these ordinances as a whole or any section, provision, or part thereof not adjudged invalid or unconstitutional.

IN
PROPERTY ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA,
INTO
THE PRECINCTS FOR THE CITY OF TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA,
FOR
CITY ELECTION PURPOSES
WHEREAS, by annexation completed in 1998, the City of Terre Haute, Indiana, annexed into its boundaries property generally bounded by Interstate 70 on the south, U.S. Route 41 on the west, State Road 46 to the east, and U.S. Route 40 on the north; and
WHEREAS, the territory annexed into the City of Terre Haute, Indiana, must be incorporated into the City precincts for voting purposes; and
WHEREAS, there exists in the State of Indiana a freeze on changing precincts until the year 2000 which freeze prohibits the creating of new precincts until that time; and
WHEREAS, the property annexed into the City of Terre Haute, Indiana, must be placed into the City of Terre Haute voting precincts for voting purposes until the lifting of the freeze,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:
The following annexed and renamed areas containing the specified number of voters shall be placed in the Ninth (9th) Ward for voting purposes.
